FAME ON THE FARM!

So! My very good friend, Farmgirl Susan over at Farmgirl Fare, has finally given in to the powers of persuasion (some may call it year-long pestering, but they are just jealous), and named a farm animal after me!
Meet Studly Do-Right Jefferson, a.k.a. Studly Jeff! A fine-looking devil, indeed. Between you and me, I was always worried she would name a chicken after me. Not that there is anything wrong with chickenz, of course. We love chicken! Soup! Er...I mean...real live chickenz!

This is clearly one of the highlights of 2006. So thank you, Farmgirl Susan!

Farming 101

I've never really been around farms, so now that we are living in the country, I'm seeing all kinds of new things and getting quite an education.

When I saw this out the front window across the street:
....I called to Joe and said "What the heck is that?!"

He told me it's a combine. Oh! I've heard of those. It was pretty cool. And HUGE! This would be fun to take one day on my work commute.

While I was standing on the front porch taking pictures (and probably looking like a tourist in our own neighborhood), I also captured this picture of the trees across the street, which are quite vibrant with their colors:

Max's New Friends

In addition to the alpacas on the farm behind our house, there are a bunch of chickens, hens, quail....and these:
Turkeys! There was a nice little group of them wandering around by the alpacas tonight, and Max really wanted to go play with them. They seemed to mock him as he barked, though, and eventually he got tired and decided to just sit and survey his estate:
This is the view of his estate from where he was laying down....not a bad estate for a dog:

Fall TV Shows - The Best In My Opinion

Last year, my favorite show was Two and a Half Men - loved the humor, and the little kid cracked me up. It doesn't seem as funny this season, so I only watch it occassionally now.

So now I'm hooked on Boston Legal . The William Shatner/James Spader/Candice Bergen combo is so funny. Who ever would have thought Shatner could have such a great come back? The role is perfect for him. The addition of the "midget" (their word, not mine!) as his current love interest leaves me laughing out loud.

My other fall favorite is Family Jewels. When I first heard about this "reality" show, featuring KISS legend Gene Simmons and his family, I thought "My gawd, how stupid is that going to be?" Then I stumbled on it one night and started watching - it's actually really funny. His family, especially the kids, do a great job in mocking and humoring him, and his dry wit just makes me laugh.

Anyone have ay favorite shows this season that they recommend?

Fluffy Dog!

The weather took a turn towards *really cold* this afternoon (keeping in mind we're adusting after coming from Phoenix! So cold = relative). I wish I had a blig fluffy coat like Max:

I think he's enjoying the colder weather, and will love the snow. After all, he's an American Eskimo, so I'm guessing he prefers snow over desert.

What The Heck Is This One?

I think Maryland must be some haven for scary spiders:

Joe pointed this one out when I got home today. We have no idea what it is, but it looks very scary.... and deadly! It's even scarier on the other side, but I couldn't get a good picture (and I wasn't about to touch it or get within 2 feet!). I'll have to do some research, but if anyone has any idea what this is, let me know!

Spider Update: My research finds that this is Argiope aurantia, a black & yellow garden spider. So I don't think it will kill me.

While we were waiting for the kitchen contractor to come out this afternoon, I snapped this pic of Joe:

He always does such a nice job of mowing the lawn.
