Bug of the Month....times a Thousand!
We've been invaded! By bugs!
I thought we left the bugs behind in Maryland....apparently not. When we looked out the window, there were hundreds of them all up and down the pillars out front.
I asked the neighbors and our Realtor what the heck these were, and found out they are Box Elder Bugs. Perfectly harmless. Just millions of them! Sheesh!
We also snapped some cute pics of The Boys this afternoon:
Spike had his first vet visit since getting back to Minneapolis. The Dr. declared Spike in amazingly good shape for a 17-year old dog! Go Spike! He had some problems adjusting right after the move, but he seems to be back to his normal self, which is very good news.

Hello from Maryland (Savage).
Thanks for identifying the Boxelder bug. We had an infestation a couple years back outside (thank God!) on the deck and back of the house. We have lots of Maple trees. Thanks for link to Wikipedia.
Ken
Max always looks like he's smiling! I think of him as Smiling Max! LOL Ugly bugs - I haven't seen any like that here in VA. But, we are by the coast, so we get other gross things!

Yes, and it's worse when your landlords do nothing to insulate your apartment so you find the wretched things IN YOUR HOUSE, crawling on your stuff.
*chanting* I won't live here forever, I won't live here forever...
You'll hear occasional stories of box elder bugs crawling all over the place, I think they're always outside stories, and not inside stories.
Don't worry, freezing temps kill them off, which could be any day now.
Jeff - I would have freaked out and sent the dogs to attack them. You, of course, had better sense to ask around. I'm glad to hear that they are harmless and stay outdoors...Max looks good. I hope he stays that way for a long time yet.
Hi Ken! You're welcome. For the year we were in MD, I think we saw every other bug but this one! They are everywhere here! Eesh! So far, we've only found one that made it inside the house. Max tried to eat it, of course....
Hi Suzanne - Max has such a fun personality. He cracks us up :)
Hello, Erin! ICK! I read that a bit of dish soap and water in a spray bottle helps control them. Maybe try that, AND clicking your heels together 3 times while chanting....?
Holas SK - It sure felt like freezing yesterday. I think we need a good snow to take care of this....haha!
Hi Shaun - Spike wouldn't even get up...Max was more interested in barking at them (and everything else that moves!), which had no effect. As long as they stay outside and don't try to migrate in, we're fine. I think. Until they congregate and start planning their attack..... =:o
